Our Mission
The Maine Sovereign Power Authority is a proposed nonprofit public corporation and political subdivision of the State of Maine. We will own and operate the state's transmission and distribution infrastructure, procure or develop generation, and deliver electricity under full Maine PUC oversight—eliminating foreign profit extraction while cutting rates to Nebraska levels.
Our Vision
Every Maine household and business deserves electricity at 11–13 cents/kWh—not 27–30 cents. We envision a future where Maine's energy dollars stay in Maine, controlled by Maine voters, delivering affordable and reliable power without technology mandates or subsidies.
The Nebraska Precedent
Nebraska has operated 121 public power districts since 1933, delivering 11–13 cent/kWh rates with 99.9%+ reliability in a rural, cold-climate environment nearly identical to Maine. If Nebraska can do it for 75+ years, Maine can too.
How We Started
After the 2023 referendum defeat, organizers regrouped with a clear mandate: address every legitimate concern. MSPA emerged with ironclad employee protections, phased implementation, independent oversight, statutory performance triggers, and zero state debt—making public power politically and financially viable.
Governance Structure
MSPA will be governed by an elected board directly accountable to Maine customers. All meetings public. All financial records transparent. Major decisions require community input. Full Maine PUC regulation ensures no politicization—just professional operation.
